About Our Ingredients

Since parsley is packed with vitimins and minerals (A, B, C and K, calcium, magnesium, iron, phosophorous, potassium) we like to include it in many of our treats. Besides being so nutrient rich, parsley also has a high chlorophyll content, which naturally freshens fido's breath.
Liver has vitamins A, E, D and K. These are important for eyes/vision and skin. Add to that the essential minerals, protien, and omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids that can be found in abundance in liver and you can see why liver is a wonderful and nutritious food for your pet.
Carob comes from carob trees. It has been used long before sugar as a natural sweetner. The flavor is actually very similar to that of cocoa. The key is that carob lacks the theobromine, caffeine, and other toxins that cocoa has. Theobromine is one of a class of chemical compounds called methylxanthines, which also include caffeine and theophylline (found in tea). They're all stimulants and not good for your pooch.
Ginger is not only good for a Sunny-dog's breath, but it's great for upset tummies, too.
We alreaady know that oats lower cholesterol, but did you know that they are a low gluten, low glycemic, easily digestable food, too?
We use blueberries, cranberries and strawberries in some of out treats. These are all safe for dogs and work as antioxidents. Cranberries are known for promoting urinary tract health in humans and they do the same for dogs.
Tomatoes are commonly believed to be unsafe. This is untrue. The leaves and stems can be toxic, but the red tomato itself is fine in some foods. The health benefits of tomatoes for dogs are many. They provide good nutrition, including lycopene, an antioxidant that is a known anti-cancer agent. Most dogs also enjoy the taste of tomatoes (some to the point of helping themselves to ripe tomatoes in the garden) and so treats containing tomatoes and tomato paste are very appealing. All things in moderation, though as the acidity can be a bit too much if fed too much tomato too often.
We started this endeavor as a means of controlling our own family pet, Sunny's allergies. We didn't like keeping her on allergy medicine all the time and we found that trying to find a commercial food that alleviated her itchy skin symptoms was next to impossible. Being the inquisitive, investigative researcher that I am, I rolled up my sleeves and dove in head first to find all of the information that I could on pet allergies and food. The diet that I found to work best for her was a combination of various veterinarian's suggestions, multiple books written on the topic, and much, much, much research and of course, good old trial and error. Immediately we saw a vast improvement in Sunny's health, energy level, and skin condition. It is our belief that all family pets should enjoy the comforts and benefits of home cooked, organic, natural foods and their owners should be able to obtain that food at a reasonable cost.
